Icelandic singer Guja Sandholt lives in Amsterdam and Reykjavík and performs regularly in the Netherlands, Iceland and internationally. She is also the Artistic Director of a new opera/music theatre festival in Iceland, Reykjavik Opera Days, which was chosen Music Festival of the Year 2018 at the Icelandic Music Awards.

Among her recent performances is an introductory performance of Richard III by S. Sævarsson as Queen Elizabeth; the Mattheus Junior by Albert Hoex and the Verdi Requiem in Iceland; David Lang's The Little Match Girl Passion in Iceland; Beethoven's Fidelio (Leonore) in Iceland and Estonia in 2021 and Lee Hoiby’s wonderful Chocolate Cake Opera, Bon Appétit! in Iceland, Netherlands and Estonia. She sang the role of Popova in William Walton's The Bear at the Cycle Art and Music Festival in Iceland and in Sweden and participated as a resident artist in the Nieuwe Stemmen project at the Operadagen Rotterdam. Guja enjoys performing the oratorios and has e.g. sung the mezzo/alto solo parts of St. Matthew Passion and Christmas Oratorio by J.S. Bach; Mozart’s Requiem and Stabat mater by Pergolesi, Dvorak and Arvo Pärt.

In recent years, Guja has gradually been adding more dramatic roles to her repertoire in connection to the development of her voice, e.g. Leonore (Fidelio), Sieglinde (Die Walküre) and Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos).

Prior to moving to the Netherlands to study, graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. In the Netherlands, she studied with Charlotte Margiono and Jón Thorsteinsson. She currently attends private lessons with Stephanie Doll in Düsseldorf. 

Together with Heleen Vegter, pianist, Guja regularly gives song recitals. An experienced ensemble singer, Guja has a part time job with the Netherlands Radio Choir.
